TY for the info.......btw.
Did you give your email to ANYONE in game?
You might need to report them......they could be behind this.
Not sure, and not pointing fingers.

he said that the e-mail could have been gotten through the forums.

On that note, if you goto the site, I'm pretty sure it has input verification turned off, so you can submit any old crap there to wind them up.

I know.....BUT it is still possible..........if it's from the fourms then it makes more sense.
Don't use your email here for the actual game

Winding them up?

They could have emailed you from viewing your public profile and clicking on the option to send you email.

In your user cp, you can go to 'edit options' and uncheck the option that allows members to send you email.

All right, let me clarify some things.

First off, no one has your email from here. Email addresses are not visible.

Second off, if they did use the "email contact" form it doesn't disclose your email but it does disclose the email of the person who is sending it. That email address would HAVE to be registered on this forum since you can't change or alter it while sending the message. I've looked through our forum database and no one with the email address [email protected] has an account here. Not to mention that if they did use that form it would have also disclosed their forum name as well.

They did not contact you through this forum or get your email address from this forum.

Edit: I am editing to clarify this statement that if someone chose to input their MSN IM information then their email address was displayed. Since this is an optional feature and one that a forum user had to do themselves then this was their choice. We have gone ahead and manually wiped out all MSN IM id's from this forum. You can re input this information but, just as before, this is your choice and you assume the risk of having your email address displayed.

You will certainly want to let ArenaNet know of this so please contact them through support.

To the OP; I sympathize with this sad person's feeble attempt at stealing an account, but please bold the fact that the links are fake. I don't want another thread of someone saying that their account was stolen because of this thread. I would put the notice above the quote, for starters.

The links are real, as a result of him copy+pasting the message directly from his e-mail... copy+paste on most e-mail clients do not copy hyperlinks.

The only malicious part of his post is at the end, which is introduced as fake and followed by capslock warning.

ok I am a dumb guy....just made the thread about this since I received this e-mail as well.

Well it confirms the fact that it's fishing

Edit: copying the other post I did:

I received this e-mail this morning:

it's obviously some sort of fishing mail in order to steal people's play nc account information.

I never bought GW Platinum Edition, and the mail asks me, as you can see, to click on that link and enter my account from there, which is quite suspicious.

Wanted to warn everybody, have a good day ;D

Have to admit, pretty well typed out scam, and somewhat convincing (except the last line).

Everyone, if you are choosing to display your MSN IM info, you are giving them your email address.
